Jay-Z has broken his silence about the allegations that linked him to Sean “Diddy” Combs, and his account of the relationship is very different from the public image the two men once projected. In a rare interview with GQ magazine, Jay-Z addressed the civil lawsuit filed against him in December 2024, in which an anonymous accuser claimed that he and Combs sexually assaulted her at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13 years old. Jay-Z said that when the allegations became public, he dealt with uncontrollable anger, adding that he had not felt that level of rage in a very long time. He described growing up in the streets and making bad decisions in his younger years, but said the one thing he always lived for was the street code to never do anything to women or children, and that he takes that principle seriously.
The two men had called each other brothers for 27 years. They were photographed together at the 1997 MTV VMAs, the 1998 Grammys, and multiple private parties across two decades. Combs himself went on the record in 2009 saying they were like brothers. Then Combs was arrested in September 2024 on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, went to NBC News and said that although Jay-Z publicly supported Combs, they were not best friends and were not as close as the public thought. Spiro said Jay-Z had no knowledge of what allegedly went on at Combs’ parties or what allegedly took place in the civil suits, criminal charges, and trial, framing Jay-Z’s support as that of a fellow musician who came up in the industry alongside Combs. In December 2024, Jay-Z was named as a co-defendant in the refiled lawsuit. He called the whole thing a blackmail attempt and went after the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.
According to sworn declarations filed by investigators, the woman herself allegedly admitted that Jay-Z had nothing to do with the assault and that Buzbee was the one who brought Jay-Z into the case. On February 14, the Jane Doe voluntarily withdrew the lawsuit with prejudice, meaning she cannot file it again. Though Jay-Z was cleared legally, the court of public opinion operates on a different timeline. Combs’ own trial brought Jay-Z’s name up again when a former Bad Boy employee testified about advising Cassie Ventura to date other men, with Jay-Z’s name referenced in that testimony. An industry insider told reporters that Jay-Z would absolutely throw Combs under the bus if that was what it took to clear his name, claiming he has zero loyalty to Combs. In a separate entertainment feud, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni went from co-stars to federal court adversaries. Lively starred in and Baldoni directed the film It Ends With Us.
In December 2024, Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department accusing him of sexual harassment on set, and also said Wayfarer Studios retaliated against her after she raised the complaints. Baldoni and Wayfarer denied everything. Baldoni then counter-sued in January 2025, filing a lawsuit against Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for defamation and extortion, claiming they tried to destroy his reputation. He argued Lively used her complaints as a way to seize control of the film.
The counter-suit sought $400 million. He also separately sued The New York Times over the article that broke the story. The legal battle expanded when Lively’s team subpoenaed Scooter Braun, the music manager who had previously acquired Taylor Swift’s masters, because his crisis PR firm was allegedly connected to Baldoni’s damage control operation. Taylor Swift herself got dragged in when Baldoni claimed Lively used a high-profile friend, later identified as Swift, to discuss script revisions on the film.
A judge dismissed Baldoni’s lawsuit in June 2025. Most of Lively’s lawsuit was gutted in April 2026, including the sexual harassment claims. They announced a settlement, but two days later a federal filing suggested the matter still was not fully resolved, and no money changed hands. The Hollywood Reporter called it mutually assured destruction, and Colleen Hoover, the author of the book that inspired the film, said publicly that she was now embarrassed by her own book.
Baldoni celebrated the outcome as a major win for truth, saying the case was about power and the belief that being best friends with Taylor Swift meant they could do whatever they wanted. In another high-profile split, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset on July 31, 2024. Sources close to the couple told TMZ the split had been a long time coming and that they had been growing apart for a while. Cardi B broke her silence and said it was not just cheating, but a lot more than anyone could imagine.
She said she did not even want to co-parent with him at that point, describing the situation as very dark and saying there was no love there. Offset went on Instagram Live and accused Cardi of cheating while she was pregnant, writing in a comment, “You’ve [cheated] with a baby inside. Tell the truth. ”
Then, in October 2025, over a year later, Offset went on Keke Palmer’s podcast and finally admitted what many already suspected.
He said he should have respected Cardi way more, acknowledged a history of cheating, and said he made bad decisions as a man, including stepping out, adding that he had to take that on the chin. Meanwhile, Cardi moved on. She was spotted with NFL star Stefon Diggs at Coachella, on a yacht, and courtside at games. Offset requested spousal support and joint custody in the divorce proceedings.
The longest betrayal in pop music history reached its ending in 2025. In June 2019, Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Records for $330 million, a deal that included the masters to Taylor Swift’s first six albums. Swift said she found out about it the same moment the rest of the world did, and described what she called the incessant, manipulative bullying she had received at his hands for years. She re-recorded four albums from scratch.
The 10-minute version of All Too Well hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, as did Is It Over Now? The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. She used the betrayal as fuel and came back bigger than before. In May 2025, she announced full ownership of her original catalog after purchasing all the masters from Shamrock on terms she described as fair.
Braun’s public response when the press asked him about it was, “I am happy for her. ” On a podcast, he added, “I can’t worry about everyone’s niece being mad at me. ”
He also admitted that his arrogance caused the whole situation and said the fallout hit his mental health hard, especially while he was going through a divorce from his then-wife Yael Cohen at the same time. Braun acknowledged that by the time he bought Big Machine, he had started managing Kanye West and Justin Bieber, knew Swift did not get along with them, and assumed she probably did not like him because of that.
He said he thought once the announcement happened, she would talk to him, see who he was, and they would work together. Instead, Swift went public with her anger. He said the biggest gift he got from the experience was understanding that all the praise he had received up until that moment was not deserved, and that all the hate he got after that moment was not deserved either, because none of those people knew him. The list included Kim Kardashian, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, and many others.
But the name that stopped everyone was North West, his own daughter, who was 12 years old at the time. Here is why she made the list. In 2025, Kanye released a track called Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine and credited North as a featured artist. Kim had filed a trademark over North’s name, and that filing got in the way of the release.

In June 2025, one day after Hailey announced a $1 billion partnership between her brand Rhode and Elf Cosmetics, Selena’s brand Rare Beauty posted photos of her with the caption “Still here.
” The very next day, the two unfollowed each other on Instagram, and the internet lost its mind. Back in 2023, Hailey had said she was done being pitted against Selena, calling the whole situation disgusting and awful. Selena responded at the time with a now-deleted Instagram story, saying, “Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants.
It doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance, not intelligence. Be kind. All brands inspire me.

Justin Bieber unfollowed Hailey on Instagram in early 2025, explaining in a now-deleted story that someone went on his account and unfollowed his wife. 50 Cent’s story of Combs goes in the opposite direction from the others in this narrative. This is not about 50 Cent being betrayed.
It is about him being the one person who kept telling the world what was happening while others around Combs stayed quiet and protected him. 50 Cent called Combs out publicly eight years ago, saying on camera that the things Combs said made him uncomfortable, back when saying that could actually cost you something in the industry. He said he did not participate and did not go to those parties. When Combs’ criminal trial started, 50 Cent got his moment. Under oath, Combs’ former assistant Capricorn Clark testified that after an MTV event where 50 Cent was present, Combs told his manager, “I don’t like all the back and forth.
I don’t do that. I like guns. ”
50 Cent’s response online was, “Cut, cut. Wait a minute.
Puffy’s got a gun. I can’t believe this. I don’t feel safe. LOL.
”
He also posted about Kid Cudi’s car, referencing the trial allegation that Combs blew up Kid Cudi’s car in a jealous rage after Cudi briefly dated Cassie. She testified that Combs directed everything from what she wore to the lighting in the room to how she was supposed to interact with the person she was having sex with. She explained how she used makeup to hide bruises. Over two days on the stand, Cassie accused Combs of rape, forcing her to have sex with prostitutes, and blackmailing her with videos recorded during what he called freak-offs. Her words to the court were, “Something that Sean wanted to happen, that’s what was going to happen.
”
